Funding Infrastructure
Outdoor media has long been a part of the commercial and social fabric of Australian cities.
It is used by government, charities and businesses to communicate messages to the public. It also provides essential community services. A study conducted by Access Economics found that outdoor media directly funded public infrastructure valued at more than $205 million, including 8,500 bus and tram shelters, 1,061 bins, 575 park benches, 151 kiosks, 14 public toilets and 29 pedestrian bridges throughout Australia.
Outdoor companies have invested significant resources into ensuring the quality of the structures provided via this funding model. In some cases, renowned Australian and international architects have been commissioned to design practical and attractive street furniture.
In addition to off setting construction and maintenance costs, many local councils and state government agencies receive direct revenue from outdoor advertising. These funds can then be used for other community benefits.
