Digital Out of Home cyber security: Are you on top of best practice?

Written by OMA | 19 August 2026

Are you taking the right steps to ensure best practice when it comes to protecting you and your clients from the threat of cyber-attacks?

As Digital Out of Home (DOOH) becomes increasingly connected, the Outdoor Media Association has developed draft DOOH Cyber Security Guidelines to provide practical guidance for media owners to understand what good security looks like across modern DOOH workflows.

These have been developed by cyber security specialists Skylight Cyber in consultation with the OOH Cyber Security Committee.

As part of the Draft Guidelines Launch, the OMA will host a webinar on Thursday 10 September at 11am (AET) for all media owner members.

This will brief media owners on the draft Framework and Guidelines before they are shared more broadly across the industry.

The session will be particularly valuable for those responsible for technology, platforms, operations, risk, procurement and cyber security.

It will also provide members with an opportunity to understand the proposed approach, the responsibilities, practical implications for media owners and the next steps for industry consultation.

The session will cover:

  • Why the Framework and Guidelines have been developed.
  • The proposed minimum, recommended and target security expectations.
  • What the Guidelines mean for media owners and third parties connected to OOH workflows.
  • Practical application across technology, operations, supplier management and governance.
  • The proposed consultation and implementation roadmap.

“With Digital Out of Home accounting for so much of our industry revenue, best practice when it comes to cyber security is vital to supporting trusted and sustainable growth,” OMA and MOVE General Manager Kylie Green said.

“The onus is on us as an industry to ensure the digital platforms we provide for brands are operating in the best way possible to keep cyber criminals at arm’s length.

“We have a strong reputation as one of the most trusted mediums in the country and these guidelines help enhance that reputation.

“We are very much looking forward to working collaboratively with our members on this and thank the OOH Cyber Security Committee for their assistance in developing this draft.”
